Vicky Got a New Job and Amanda Wants to Go Shopping

posted on 15 February 2012

I almost fell my chair when Vicky entered the room and shrieked unexpectedly. I glared at her but she just smiled and said she got the job she interviewed for the other day. That erased all the animosity I might have felt for her to be replaced with joy. Her enthusiasm is really contagious and before I know it we were all talking about her new job. She told us that she would be working as a receptionist for a huge company that happens to be the biggest seo services provider in the whole of Asia. Hearing the word receptionist and huge company had Amanda telling her excitedly that they should (emphasizing on should) go shopping for a new set of wardrobe this weekend. According to Amanda she simply cannot wear her old clothes to this new job. I rolled my eyes, Amanda has this penchant for shopping and she would use just about anything as an excuse to go splurge and swipe her credit cards. Vicky nodded her agreement and the two of them made plans to hit the boutiques this Saturday.

Are Ad Banners a Necessary Nuisance?

posted on 12 February 2012

The content of the world-wide-web is so extensive that it boggles my mind. And I can access much of it for the simple cost of a service provider. While these developments have given copyright lawyers and their clients enormous brain cramps – and out-of-pocket financial losses – they have been a tremendous boon for loads of people, industries and businesses. And that includes me. I am an extremely curious person, and hardly a day goes by that I do not give abundant thanks that search engines can satisfy my who-what-where-when and why questions in seconds. I also love to shop, and I love bargains and auctions – all of which are readily done on the web. So I find myself face-to-face with a tremendous amount of advertising, particularly those banner ads with their click-through methodology and their fearsome aspect ratios. I really do not pay a lot of attention to them, even ads on games I am absorbed in playing. They don’t especially annoy me or impact me. I simply understand they are paying for all the conveniences I get to access without shelling out my own pocket change, or more. Maybe ad banners are a necessary nuisance. And maybe someday marketing and design folks will discover ways to really engage me in their ads rather than just working around them.
